What is it that drives us? That moves us to tears, to go on, to carry forth in the face of adversity? What is that makes us do what we do? Or, more to the point, what we don’t want to do? What’s the point of it all? Is this all just a bit of filler between where we’ve been and where we’re going?

Watch this episode to find out.

Also, don’t forget to buy our DVD.

Vexor Conquers the Nerds (To become the Uber Nerd!)

It was a big week for Spidertron. Carter and I went to Radcon in Pasco WA, to show Spidertron in the Radcon Fan Film Festival. We were a non competing entry (due to length), but did get the privilege of participating in a couple of Q&A’s with other film makers and fans.

We met Damon Wellner, Sebastian O’Brien, and Carla Remy Norton of Probot Productions who were kind enough to give us a copy of Aliens 5(squared), a spoof of several Aliens movies staring action figures! They also happen to be nerdfamous for “STAR WARS A New Hope in 3 minutes” (action figures again, go figure [ha!]). Besides being adept film makers they were quite friendly.

Vexor Conquered the Nerds in the Radcon Grand Masquerade Costume Contest! We won for Best Original Costume! I received a certificate in pirate-speak, and a ring-juggling harlequin brooch! Video is on the way!

Convention attendees were notably impressed by Vexor’s costume, and made many positive and suggestive comments. Particularly interested, were the guys smoking under the tree on the corner 30 feet from where I was changing into costume in the car. (Vexor demands a green room next time! No! A trailer!) Seeing as how my wife was in the car with me, I’m sure they were looking forward to some intergalactic action when I took off my pants and pulled out the hand-cuffs. But they were duly impressed when I pulled the floor mats over my head, and thew the shower curtain on my back.

In other news. Spidertron is now available at Emerald City Comics in Eugene (770 East 13th Avenue [Above Rainbow Optics]). Stu, the generous guy that he is, is allowing us to offer it at the low-low-low-low price of $10.00. He may even have a copy for rent. Ask if you don’t see it.

And don’t miss the Bijou night shows of Spidertron on March 14, 15, and 16th (all shows will be after 11:00pm)

Spidertron… THE PREMIERE!

Before I say anything about the premiere, I must thank all the people who showed up for it. We love you whoever you are (even if you are family)! Thank you so much for making everyone in the cast and crew feel appreciated. It means a bunch to us, really. Our apologies to all who had to stand or sit on the floor. Thanks for your commitment. You guys rock!

And now, regarding the premiere:

THE PREMIERE WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!

As implied above, the house was packed! Standing room only! And there were lots of people standing (or sitting on the floor) for the entire film! A few had to be turned away. We were sorry and thrilled at the same time! Thanks to the Bijou for hosting us! Sorry if we overwhelmed you. We hope you shared the excitement we had! We had really no idea how much interest there would be in our little Sci-Fi flick.

I wore the Vexor costume, everyone else at least bathed. We sold quite a few DVD’s, I’ll have to confirm with Carter the exact numbers, and weather to count all the ones his Mom bought (Thanks Carter’s Mom!). We had a blast! I personally want to thank my brother-in-law, Chad Hiatt, for being the #1 standout Spidertron fan! In case you missed it, he was the one with the GIANT Spidertron Way-station HAT(featuring stereo MP3 sound of the Spidertron Theme, and lights! [pictures to follow]). And thanks to Jared and Cassandra, who drove all the way from the Seattle Tacoma area to support us! Those are just two of my personal thank-yous’; the cast and crew were all overcome with thankfulness for friends, family, and even complete strangers who came to see us on the big screen.

It’s impossible to know how many people were present that were unconnected to cast and crew, and perhaps it’s a moot point since this project was a microcosm of the whole community. I’m sure educators, students, and health-care-workers were all over represented groups in attendance. Perhaps we could get some people related to wood-products involved in the next project, and we would have the whole town show up!

This may be the end of Spidertron the production, but it is only the beginning of Spidertron the movie! We are looking for opportunities for other showings, for those who missed the first one. And of course there’s always the DVD! Which leads me to the next phase of Spidertron marketing! Marketing is as much a part of modern film-making as the camera. True it’s not everyones preferred creative outlet, but what would your childhood have been like without Star Wars action figures, a Charlie’s Angels t-shirt, and the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack? OK So not exactly like mine, but who out there doesn’t want a Spidertron T-Shirt?! There on the way! And if you would like a DVD, you can e-mail me at contact@spidertron.com, and I’ll tell you the best way to get one until we have the website set up for sales.

Spidertron ROCKS! Thank you all!

p.s. Anyone with photos of the event, please share them with us! E-mail us and let us know!
